O’Brien’s In The Media

The media has featured O’Brien’s Pub Quiz in a variety of publications:

The game at O’ Brien’s is truly unique: each of the regular players rotates as host, writing and presenting his or her own questions for the night.  Hosts are able to infuse a little artistic license into the standard game format, so no two nights of trivia are alike.

The way the questions are written, much like “Jeopardy!,” provides clues that can help you get there even if you don’t know the answer to it from the start…. What I enjoyed most about the pub quiz is that the questions, which ranged from international events to pop culture, history, and beyond, stuck in my brain and made me curious to learn more.

“This Los Angeles trivia night is so hard, it’s a Jeopardy! champ favorite,” SFGate

And should you be the only one in the room who knows an answer—which happens more often than you might think—the experience can be downright addictive.

Bars in other cities… have distinguished quiz nights, but none has O’Brien’s combination of location, demographics and history…. Word quickly spread… that the Santa Monica pub provided the camaraderie and exceptional challenge TV show veterans long for after reaching the pinnacle of largely useless knowledge.

But if you’re worried about intellectual intimidation, fear not — the vibe at O’Brien’s is welcoming and friendly.

About Our Annual Academy Awards Quiz

Each year on the Wednesday before the Academy Awards, O’Brien’s has its only themed quiz. See below for reports filed following that quiz:

“‘I’ll Take Insanely Hard Oscar Trivia For 400, Alex,'” NPR’s All Things Considered

“O’Brien’s Pub Oscar trivia night is not for the casual Academy Awards fan,” KPCC’s The Frame

About Our Pandemic Frankenquiz

Once a month, its rotating hosts present what they call a “Frankenquiz,” a best-of edition designed for a popular (if scarily knowledgeable) audience. On a recent Sunday, 17 teams handily fielded questions about film directors, sports teams, Ibadi Islam and a British foreign secretary, anagrammed.
